ABC: Candidates Running On Faith Should Be Prepared To Talk About It

ABC's Jake Trapper said on This Week yesterday that any candidate who is running as a "faith" candidate and attempting to appeal to "faith" voters, should be prepared to discuss the specifics of their faith and how it does - or does not - influence thier decision-making.

Trapper was pointing out that Mitt Romney, a Mormon, appears to be attempting to run as a "faith" candidate, while "fuzzing" about the details of Mormon beliefs.

We know one candidate who is not afraid to discuss his faith. That's Gov. Mike Huckabee, a former Baptist minister. Huckabee has publicly stated that his faith drives him - it is who he is. And his public discussions about his faith have been described by a CNN analyst as "breathtaking."

To see video of Huckabee discussing his faith on national TV, click HERE.

What say you, Romney?

Report: McCain May Drop Out By September

Here's a report indicating "front runner" and media darling John McCain may drop his presidential bid by September. This is not good news for McCain, whose fundraising has been slower than many anticipated. If a feeling spreads that he is on his last legs, funds will dry up even more quickly.

Perhaps authentic conservatives should get behind Mike Huckabee, who has shined in all three debates and is showing steadily increasing support.

Other Bloggers on Mike Huckabee

Want an example of how an AUTHENTIC Christian conservative's message is spread? Consider this post from Southern California blogger "Tom" of Brooktown Blog.

Tom says: "My sister directed my attention to this YouTube clip of presidential candidate Mike Huckabee answering a question during the Republican debate ... the main thing is how he articulates his position on evolution versus the biblical account of creation. Before today, I had barely heard this guy's name. Now I'm hoping he makes it to the election so I can vote for him."

Huckabee's answer to the evolution question was described by a CNN analyst as "breathtaking." You can watch it on Tom's blog. Click HERE.

Huckabee Overtakes McCain in Iowa

A new Mason-Dixon poll shows that Governor Mike Huckabee has overtaken "front runner" John McCain in Iowa. Huckabee received 7% support in the poll, his highest poll ranking to date.

This news comes on the heels of two other recent polls indicating sharp increases in voter preference for Huckabee in South Carolina and New Hampshire on the heels of the three televised GOP debates.

Huckabee received wide acclaim for three solid debate performances.

Significantly, Huckabee has achieved his recent advances in key primary state polling despite spending almost ZERO dollars in the states. By comparision, Huckabee's competitors have spent lavishly.

The results indicate conservatives continue to gravitate toward Huckabee's authentic conservative message and credentials.

Huckabee Jumps in South Carolina Polling

According to the latest Mason-Dixon poll, Governor Mike Huckabee has jumped to 5% in South Carolina on the strength of his debate performances. "Huckabee has gotten strong notices in the last two debates," says Mason-Dixon.

Most notably Huckabee, at 5%, is within the poll's margin of error for overtaking McCain (who is at 7%) and a virtual tie with Romney (who is at 11%). Huckabee has spent almost ZERO dollars in South Carolina while the so-called "front-runners" have spent lavishly by comparison.

The South Carolina poll is great news for Huckabee on the heels of news last week that he has also leaped in New Hampshire polling since the recent debates.

Huckabee Leading "Veepstakes"

ABC News reports today that "after three strong debate performances, Republicans have quickly turned their attention to Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas. ... He's got the whole package -- funny, friendly, devout, intelligent -- the perfect balance to a fast-talking New Yorker, a veteran Arizona senator, or a Mormon from Massachusetts, all of whom need conservative street cred."

"If they think I'm vice president by June, I think by January they'll think I ought to be president, and that's where I'm headed."

We love Governor Huckabee's response to all this buzz: "If they think I'm vice president by June, I think by January they'll think I ought to be president, and that's where I'm headed," he said.

Huckabee Leaps in New Hampshire Polling

The more people get to see and meet Mike Huckabee, the more they like him. This is confirmed by the latest polling out of New Hampshire.

According to USAElectionPolls, in a survey conducted June 4-7, Huckabee jumped to 5% - the highest rating he has yet received outside of Arkansas and its neighboring state of Oklahoma.

"Traditional conservatives are choosing Huckabee because they see Giuliani and McCain as pro-choice and Romney as a flip-flopper" says USAElectionPolls.

Human Events: Huckabee One to Watch

We're back in town now after a long business trip. Sorry to all of you who like to come by here every day. Lets get right back into it, shall we?

Here's a great snippit from a story in Human Events today:

"Candidate to watch: Mike Huckabee. Impressive in debates and a record of executive competency, he shows potential to break out of the second tier. In an interview last week with Human Events he demonstrated his skillful, direct communication skills when he commented about Islamic terrorists: 'This is an enemy that believes they are on a mission, as the Blues Brothers would say, a mission from God, and when you can negotiate with another person, but you can’t negotiate with god. It’s an absolute.' If money and organization follow good reviews, he may make news in Ames this summer."

Real Clear Politics: Huckabee "Impresses" (Video)

Gang,

I'm swamped at my real job and I'm about to be out for the rest of the week. I'll get a full recap of media and blogger reaction to last night's debate when I return. Here's a quick glimpse, though, of overall reaction.

Real Clear Politics says "last time Huckabee made an impression with humor. This time he did it with oratory."

Continuing, RCP says "Huckabee took what could have been a difficult question for some and turned it into an eloquent defense of his belief in God which I suspect resonated with a great number of Americans, regardless of their politics."

Check out the full post and video of Huckabee's performance HERE.

Pre-Debate News

Governor Huckabee announced today he has a plan to make America energy independent within 10 years if elected president.

Huckabee said the ambitious plan may seem far-fetched, but he compared it to President John F. Kennedy's challenge in 1961 for the nation to place a man on the moon by the end of the decade.

"We need to tell foreign countries, 'We don't need your oil. You can have it. Wash your hair in it. Take a bath in it, whatever. We don't want it,'" Huckabee said.

Huckabee Moves Headquarters to Iowa

Tomorrow, Governor Huckabee will officially announce the opening of his headquarters in the heart of downtown Des Moines, Iowa. Here's a sneak peek at the news release:

IOWA CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS

The Huckabee for President Exploratory Committee announced today that its Iowa headquarters will be located in the heart of downtown Des Moines . The office, which will open within the week, will be in the ground floor of the Des Moines Building , 405 Sixth Avenue .

"There aren't many spots in the city that have a higher profile and more traffic than the corner of Sixth Avenue and Locust Street ," said Bob Vander Plaats, Huckabee's Iowa chairman. "Our mission is to let Iowans know about Mike Huckabee, his record as an authentic conservative with an impressive array of accomplishments as governor of Arkansas and his vision for restoring America 's greatness. And that location suits our mission to a T."

Vander Plaats noted that Huckabee caught a glimpse of the offices during his most recent visit to Des Moines on May 26.

"He recognizes an excellent campaign headquarters location when he sees one and he couldn't have been happier. We're looking forward to a grand opening with Governor Huckabee in the near future," Vander Plaats said. "We're also looking forward stepping up our activities leading up to the Iowa caucuses next January."

Huckabee continues to gain momentum, particularly in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina. Things are going to get interesting!
